The alarming rise of violence among today's children is especially disturbing to oldsters who recall happy years growing up in a relatively peaceful environment; when doors were never locked; when polio was our worst fear; when even wars, for us, were fought in somebody else's back yard.

Someone suggested that exposing impressionable young minds to the best past influences of old fashioned values might help. The memory of listening to the rich hypnotic voice of Job Matusow reading his inspirational Magic Mouse stories on his old radio show suggested their revival as a possibility. Job was found living in his public axis television station, heading a Gandhi Peace Center neighboring an Indian reservation--still in possession of his old tapes. His response was enthusiastic.

But, he felt the project needed a book to introduce it. Hilda Terry, creator of "Teena," a King Features comic strip about teen-agers, popular in the drug-free era of the 40s, 50s and early 60s, was prevailed upon to join the fray.

How to illustrate an invisible mouse seemed, at first, an impossible assignment, but Teena had come into being in the 40s as a baby sitter for the war effort. The role for reading the Magic Mouse stories to a child was a natural.

Twenty-three appropriate comic strips were found in our original proof sheet archives. Designing a book that enables the reader to follow facing pages, while providing a one sided reproduction of each panel for collectors, gave us a treasurable book for which we have first rights. We proceeded to produce the book on our Canon Color Copier which limits production, but doing the labor ourselves as volunteers minimizes our cost, keeping it within the IRS limit, excluding the necessity for subtracting a bonus from the deductible allowance of a donation.

Having Teena read the stories to Gwendolyn adds still another dimension. Gwendolyn is a character injected in her cartoon, Terry believes, by a psychic collaborator. Read her account on this website in Introduction and God's DNA, in which she cites her reasons for suspecting that Gwendolyn is an expression of the spirit of Dorcas Good, a 5-year old child who lived and suffered 300 years ago; that "THE BABY SITTER'S MAGIC MOUSE STORY BOOK," a delightful cartoon book to which baby sitters and children can relate; a memento going back to over 40% of the past century; was created for today's children by the spirit of a child whose own childhood was destroyed by mass madness.

A friend, shown the book, said, after reading it that she just wanted to hug the author. Wherever it came from, for people who love children, it's that kind of a book. An autographed limited copy of this treasure will be gratefully and happily created for everyone who mails us a donation of $50 or more.
